Sun Tanned Onions (1968)

Wellesbourne, Warwickshire. Various shots as two girl laboratory assistants check cabinets where onions are being grown under controlled conditions at National Vegetable Research Station at Wellesbourne. The doors of cabinet are drawn open to reveal the onions growing in pots. Growth, size and colour are noted by the girls. Various shots inside a shed in the research station where the onions are placed in specially controlled temperature and humidity cabinets where they receive the browning process. This is to make home grown onions more attractive to buyers and cut down imports. Various shots as John Bleasdale, Head of the Plants Physiology Department, shows the treated and untreated onions to the camera. (Orig. Neg.) Date found in the old record - 27/02/1968.
