The Dream of the Rood - Anglo-Saxon Old English poem - Ruthwell Cross

The Ruthwell Cross is an Anglo-Saxon monument carved in the 7th century. It is marked with scenes from the Bible as well as pagan style engravings. In Germanic Runes a version of the poem ’’the dream of the rood’ is written. The full version can be found in the Vercelli book. This video contains a reading in Old English, of the fragment of the poem that is carved onto the ruthwell monument. The writing is the oldest example of the English language.
