Meshell Ndegeocello’s single “Suzanne“ off the album ’Pour une Âme Souveraine’ (A Dedication to Nina Simone) still available : New album “Ventriloquism“ out now : Subscribe : Follow Meshell : Facebook : Twitter : Instagram : Website : “Suzanne“ was originally written by the great Leonard Cohen and covered by Nina Simone on her 1967 studio album, ’To Love Somebody.’ It was Simone’s cover that inspired Meshell to record her own rendition for her album, ’Pour une Âme Souveraine: A Dedication to Nina Simone.’ The song references Suzanne’s “place by the river“ and sailors being set free by the sea, pairing landscapes with self-awakening, exploration and discovery. People submitted photos of their own such places in the world to help make this video with Meshell, and together all of their images create the visual backdrop of the world’s ever-changing landscape.
