But if you head down a kilometre or more, you’d be in the dark, cold ocean deep. More people have been into space than have gone down deep below the ocean surface, yet it’s the largest habitat available for life on Earth. The colossal squid, the most massive invertebrate on the planet, makes its home in these cold depths of the Southern Ocean.
