Philippine Elections: 5 Things to Know As Voting Begins For Next President

Candidates in the Philippines presidential election are in the final stretch to woo voters in the last week of campaigning. Vice President Leni Robredo and former senator Ferdinand Marcos, Jr., son and namesake of the ousted dictator, are seen as the top two contenders in the race for the presidency. Robredo is fighting an uphill electoral battle against Marcos Jr., who has topped voter-preference surveys with a seemingly insurmountable lead. She remained in second place in independent surveys for the 10-way presidential race, far behind Marcos Jr., with just a week before 67 million registered voters pick their next leader next Monday. In the latest survey by Pulse Asia released Monday, Marcos Jr. topped the poll with 56% support, and Robredo ranked second with 23%.
