I thought it would be fun and helpful to take a look back at some of my tutorials and show you how you can incorporate them into a full wall hanging. Today I’ll be using this hexagon pattern I created a tutorial for back in 2019: The finished piece measures 15 inches wide by 2 ft long. Cut 24 pieces of 4mm rope, each piece is 8 ft long. Fold each piece in half and attach to your driftwood using Lark’s Head knots. We will tie 2 rows of double half hitch knots (DHHKs) and square knots (SKs) to create the hexagon pattern. Tie a 3rd row of one full hexagon on the left and then 3 partial hexagons as I’ve done here. We will adjust a bit as necessary as we tie our row of double half hitch knots. Cut a 3 ft piece of rope to use as your filler cord and then follow along as I tie a row of dhhks. Cut another 3 ft piece of rope. Tie another row of double half hitch knots straight across your work about 13 inches down from the bottom of the driftwood. Next we will fill in the section between the two rows of double half hitch knots with string, yarn and roving. Cut a 16 ft piece of 2 ply art yarn in the colour mint and tie a row of running rya knots above the row of dhhks. Create your loops between 1 and 3 inches long. Cut 20 pieces of 3mm string in the colour vintage green, each piece is 20 inches long. Add 7 rya knots on the right side of the running rya knots. Add 6 alternating rya knots above the previous row. Add a third row of 7 rya knots above the second row. Continue tying running rya knots with the art yarn above the rya knots on the right side of your work until there are 4 filler cords left on the right. Cut a 15 ft piece of 3mm string in the colour paradise. Tie a row of alternating running rya knots all the way across your work. Cut a 4 ft piece of teal roving and split it into four pieces. Weave your roving in front of 4 filler cords and then behind one filler cord and repeat. Cut a 3 ft piece of 3mm string in the colour lemon yellow and a 3 ft piece of mint art yarn. We will use the weaving technique of twining here - weave the pieces behind and in front of two filler cords as I’ve done here. Cut an 8 ft piece of lemon yellow 3mm string. Start 2/3 of the way across your work and tie a row of running rya knots. Cut a 4 ft piece of paradise roving and spilt it into 4 pieces. Start about 1/3 of the way across your work and weave your roving in front of 4 filler cords and then behind one filler cord and repeat. Cut an 8 ft piece of 3mm vintage green string and tie a row of running rya knots on the left side of the paradise roving. Use another piece of teal roving you split into four and weave two rows using the same process we did previously. Cut a 3 ft piece of 3mm string in the colour lemon yellow and a 3 ft piece of mint art yarn. Use the twining technique we used previously to complete one row. Cut a 10 ft piece of 3mm lemon yellow string and tie one row about 2/3 of the way across your work using running rya knots. Cut a 4 ft piece of 3mm paradise string and tie a row of running rya knots in the middle of your work. Use one of the pieces of paradise roving you split into four and weave two rows above the paradise string using the same process we did previously. Cut an 8 ft piece of mint art yarn and tie two rows of running rya knots on the right side of your work. Cut an 8 ft piece of 3mm vintage green string and tie two rows of running rya knots in the middle of your work. Cut a 3 ft piece of 3mm string in the colour lemon yellow and a 3 ft piece of mint art yarn. Use the twining technique we used previously to complete one row. Use the last two pieces of teal roving to fill in the rest of the section here using the same method that we used previously. Tuck in the ends. Cut the fringe however you’d like, I cut mine straight across, I cut the natural rope about 9 inches down from the last row of dhhks and the vintage green string about 6-7 inches down from the last row of dhhks.
