In 2009, for the 81st Academy Awards, the production company Prologue did something very clever: they took the year’s five Best Picture nominees (Slumdog Millionaire, Frost/Nixon, The Reader, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, and Milk) and spliced them together with nominees from the past, grouping the films by similar themes and motifs.
