12 Lead ECG Placement of Electrodes | EKG Sticker Lead Procedure
12 lead ECG (EKG) placement of electrode stickers: This tutorial will demonstrate the lead placement for the 12 lead ECG of the limb leads (RA: right arm, LA: left arm, RL: right leg, LL: left leg) and chest leads (V1, V2, V3, V4, V5, V6).
A 12 Lead ECG allows the nurse to assess the electrical activity of the heart. After obtaining a 12 Lead EKG the nurse can assess the patientโs heart rhythm and rate.
EKG electrodes are placed on the skin, and it is essential the nurse correctly preps the skin before placing the electrodes. For a 12 Lead EKG, you will need: 10 electrodes, alcohol prep (to clean the skin), abrasive tape, and hair trimmers. It is essential that excessive hair is clipped to prevent artifact in the EKG reading.
