Mor Yakup Monastery was built in 419 AD in the name of St. Jacob (Mor Yakup). Mor Yakup was born in Egypt in 330 AD and became a priest in a small monastery in Alexandria. It comes from Egypt to Tarsus by sea and from there to Diyarbakır. Later, he settled in Şiluh (Salıh) village in Tur Abdin. Mor Yakup, who spent his life performing miracles such as healing the sick, healing the crippled and lame, and making a week-old baby talk, was later elevated to sainthood.
It is known that in ancient times, there was a temple from the Persian period where the Mor Yakup Monastery is located today. If you walk around the building, you can see the remains of old arches.
