Forest fires in Mijas, Spain Almost 1 thousand 9 hundred hectares of land were destroyed by the fire which broke out near Mijas. It quickly spread inland towards Alhaurin. 400 people tackled the devastating blaze, including specialists from Infoca, the Civil Guard, Civil Protection, the Red Cross, and animal care expers. Alongside the ground crews, there were 15 aircraft that battled the blaze. Many people were forced to leave their homes. The fire spread at a speed of 50 metres per minute and At times the flames reached heights of 20 metres. Efforts to stop the fire were difficult to make due to the vegetation and trees.
