The world is indeed a small place, and Pasadena, California helped to create this small world concept. On the first day of every year, many different institutions and communities join Pasadena in organizing the Tournament of Roses Parade, bringing greetings and best wishes to the world. Title card: THE PASADENA TOURNAMENT OF ROSES ASSOCIATION in cooperation with Los Angeles Country presents (0:36) “It’s a Small World”: The Seventy-seventh Annual Tournament of Roses Parade (0:41). The beautiful Pasadena City Hall at 0:46. Aerial footage of the city at 0:53. Pasadena played a vital role in developing transportation and communication. At 1:05, we see Pasadena’s famous Jet Propulsion Laboratory. They created the Mariner series of communication satellites. Satellite launch footage at 1:15. These satellites helped to link communications together with transportation in a grand alliance, transmitting sounds and images to and from the most remote corners of the globe. A small group of young women are selected to be the Rose Queen and Princesses in the Tournament of Roses Royal Court for the event. They are in formal dress and tiaras. A pink rose blooms at 2:47. The Tournament of Roses Association is an organization of Pasadena citizens who volunteer to produce this magnificent floral spectacle (2:50). At 3:53, Walt Disney, serving as the Grand Marshal, and Mickey Mouse go by in an open top car. Followed by other famous Disney characters, such as Pluto, the Three Little Pigs, Captain Hook, Winnie the Pooh, Pinocchio, and Cinderella. 4:21 A cavalry marches by carrying American flags; they are thirty officers of the Long Beach Mounted Police. A float serving as a salute to Pasadena’s Sister cities: Ludwigshafen, Germany and Mishima, Japan. (4:32) This is followed by more floats, more open top cars with seated VIPs, and more marching bands. At 5:37, the mayor of the city of Pasadena drives by with his family. Some of the participants in the parade include: A splendid equestrian unit riding black and white pintos from San Diego (5:58); a tribute to Osaka, Japan by the city of San Francisco (6:03); various American football-themed floats from 6:49; 151 musicians marching in the UCLA Bruin Band (7:43); Cinderella in a pumpkin carriage drawn by very tiny horses, presented by the Huntington Sheraton Hotel (8:13); The Dr. Pepper Company’s award-winning design based on “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” (9:07); a small child waving from his seat atop Puff, the Magic Dragon, presented by the students of California State Polytechnic College (9:30); an exceptionally beautiful display by Long Beach showing Marco Polo returning to Venice, with a bridge and gondola (10:15); an award-winning design by The Chevrolet Motor company called, “A World of Roses” (10:46); rodeo trick rider, Montie Montana showing off his lasso tricks (11:02); a giant Smoky Bear passing by (11:07); an imposing entry from Canada with a flower float and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (11:45); a stunning, giant peacock and two swans by the city of Los Angeles (13:10); an enchanting Mexican entry showcasing Pre-Columbian art and artifacts (25:52); and countless, countless more. Finally, the crowds disperse at 30:16. From 30:29 follows more aerial footage of the city. The camera tilts from the Pasadena City Hall to the water fountain in the courtyard (30:50).
