Consider becoming a channel member This black & white novelty film features Egyptian actor Alex d’Arcy -- playing the part of a discharged American soldier -- traveling the French Riviera in his 1950’s Studebaker convertible. d’Arcy meets up with many other movie stars including Charles Boyer, Sonja Henie, Maurice Chevalier, George Raft, Annie Crombez (ski champion), Elsa Maxwell, Bob Stack, Buddy Rogers, Steve Reeves (Mr. America 1948). Copyright 1950. Opening title: Riviera Dream (:07-1:17). Aerial shot of Nice in the South of France. Food on a table at a French restaurant. Women serve food to d’Arcy at a table. His plate is full, the women keep giving him more and more food. The man has a dessert. The man drives around in a Studebaker. He talks to a woman on a bike. He then stops near a bikini clad woman (1:18-3:15). The bikini woman approaches the man’s car. Her husband shows up and drags her towards the water, when she looks back at the man, her husband tosses her into the water. The man continues driving and slows as he has a flat tire. He fixes the flat. He goes over to the water’s edge and relaxes (3:16-5:11). He sees clothing and goes to see what woman it belongs to. He looks out over the water. No one is there. He takes a woman’s shoe and goes back to his car. The man rests, looks up at the clouds, enters a dream. A pretty woman walks over in a bikini top and skirt and asks for her missing shoe. The man drives her back to town. The Port de Cannes docks. The woman and the man go over to a boat. She removes her skirt. The two of them get into a little speedboat (5:12-8:12). The two drive around in a boat, all around the port of Cannes. They watch a woman water skiing. The guy does water skiing and it’s not easy. The woman does great water skiing. The man isn’t doing so well. Eden Roc. People swim in a pool. Sonja Henie walks by (8:13-10:39). Numerous attractive women sit by the pool and a dashing French Officer comes by and talks to a bikini clad woman. The man is an actor and his name is George Raft, he signs her bathing suit and faints into a pool. Steve Reeves flexes by the pool. Attractive women by the pool. Sonja Henie in a bathing suit, the man and the woman hang out near the water. Sonja does water skiing (10:40-13:06). Buddy Rogers waves at the couple. The woman approaches Buddy. A man does a water ski jump. The couple looks out over the sights. Robert Stack, walks by below with a hunting rifle. He shoots at a couple by mistake and has a laugh. The couple returns to his car (13:08-15:13). They drive off in a car. They park back at Cannes. Carlton Hotel. Maurice Chevalier shows up and signs a book. Maurice writes his memoir. Charles Boyer reads a book. The couple plays a game called bocce ball. Boyer likes the shot the man takes. Maurice comes over to play. He does a great shot (15:14-17:50). A woman prepares to swim. She’s swimming in the French Riviera. She then gets out and changes her clothes. The man smiles at her. She exits with clothes and the two kiss. The man wakes up from his dream and is being yelled at by an older woman. It is her shoe he took. The man drives off with her shoe in his Studebaker. Elsa Maxwell is who the woman was (17:51-19:49).
