Visit Visit our website This 1955 Family Films religious drama presents a narrative about a man whom had recently lost his son in a driving accident. The same accident also left his wife paralyzed and in a wheelchair. The loss and apparent PTSD from the accident result in alcoholism which can only be curbed by the intervention of his father and a local reverend. The film is presented by The Way (:11). It stars Ross Elliot as George Harding, Eve Miller as his wife Helen, Morris Ankrum as Andrew Harding, Carleton Young as Dr. James Dwyer, Dayton Lummis as Dr. Feilding, Joseph Crehan as Judge Conklin, and Dian Fauntelle as the secretary. The main character, George (1:13) awakes from nightmares and believes he hears the crying of his lost son. The film then shows the evening which the accident took place (2:14). Helen questions George over a guest list for a party for his father (4:16). When Helen suggests they take a second honeymoon, George refuses (4:57). At his office, Judge Conklin encourages George to seek counseling (6:41). In Dr. Fields’ office, George appears uncooperative and storms out (8:48). George struggles to focus at work on the day of the party (8:59) and begins drinking leading him to miss the party. The following morning, George, Helen and the father discuss how the church and prayer may help George (10:35). Again George refuses help (14:42). At the church, George’s father meets with the Reverend (13:40). The Reverend visits George and encourages him to seek forgiveness from God (15:26) to no avail. George is then pulled over in a drinking and driving incident (11:41) which leads to a guilty conviction in court (18:28). After a photographer snaps a photograph, George jumps on him (19:07). He then has a meltdown over the newspaper article on the incident (19:15). Helen, the Reverend and the father meet (21:11) and Helen admits she has not forgiven George (22:40). George awakes to cries from a child and finds a photograph of their deceased son (25:38). George finds Helen praying for forgiveness in the child’s room (26:57). Helen begs for George’s forgiveness (27:33) and he in turns asks for forgiveness (27:44).
