The still photograph is often considered the strongest communication element in the world and certainly documentary images have and do prompt social change. Poverty, hunger, child labor, war, and many other concerns are often addressed by photojournalists, sometimes at great personal risk. Documentary photographer Billy Weeks will explore the moment where photographer and subject intersect with a single point of view. This common ground between the photographer and subject gives the image the power to provoke change, a common ground that can only be reached by the history embedded in both. Billy Weeks started with The Chattanooga Times in 1984 as a staff photographer, rising to Director of Photography/Graphics in 1999. In 2010, Weeks became an independent documentary photographer. As a photojournalist, Weeks has covered assignments that range from the World Series to small villages in Central America and Asia.
