Adelita by Francisco Tárrega is an all time favourite. You hear beginners picking up the guitar just to learn this song, and you hear it being played in concert halls by professionals. I hope my interpretation will bring a little calmness and peace into your day! :)
But here’s the thing - we aren’t entirely sure if it’s a mazurka or not. Mazurkas are usually speedy, but Tárrega went with a Lento tempo for Adelita. No wonder most recordings are more an Andante or even faster! Before metronome marks were everywhere, figuring out the exact beats per minute was a bit difficult
I mean, who knows, right? Tárrega might have wanted Adelita to be faster than what we call Lento today.
Either way, I tried to find a tempo which is slow enough to captures the idea and right atmosphere of the piece but it’s still not falling apart.
