Solar Storm Alert - CME Impact Sparks Geomagnetic Storms - Sept. 25. 2024

As predicted, a CME hit Earth on September 25th. The impact was sharp, abruptly raising the solar wind velocity around our planet above 550 km/s and doubling the plasma density. The CME impact caused G1 class geomagnetic storms with bright auroral displays in North Europe. Naked-eye auroras were also visible across Canada and several northern-tier US states. Right now, a G1-class storm is underway as Earth moves deeper into the CME’s magnetized wake. High latitude skywatchers should be alert for auroras when it’s dark outside! Forecast Unsettled to active levels will likely persist into 26 Sept. A return to mostly quiet conditions is expected by 27 Sept. #solarstorm #CME #spaceweather Images credit: nemesis maturity channel, NOAA/SWPC, NASA Goddard Space Flight Center Music credit: YouTube Audio Library Stranger Danger - Francis Preve
