On November 26, British Ambassador to Russia Nigel Casey was summoned to the Foreign Ministry to receive a strong protest regarding new information indicating that Second Secretary of the British Embassy Edward Wilkes had deliberately provided false information when applying for entry into Russia. This constitutes a violation of Article 26.2 of the Federal Law On the Procedure for Exiting and Entering the Russian Federation of August 15, 1996, No. 114-FZ.
Additionally, relevant Russian authorities have obtained information confirming the said diplomat’s affiliation with UK intelligence agencies, and there are indications that he was engaged in intelligence and subversive activities in the territory of the Russian Federation.
In light of this breach of Russian law, and in accordance with Article 9 of the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, the UK was notified of the withdrawal of Mr Edward Wilkes’ ...
