CLÉ. Culture & Language Exchange (Russian: chay)

Anna Fomchenko Buchanan from Russia shares with us the cultural customs surrounding 𝑐ℎ𝑎𝑦. Tea drinking in Russia started in the XVI century with trade from China and fastly became ubiquitous around the empire. Particular to the chay culture in Russia is the use of samovar (Russian tea pot ) and porcelain tea cups, which you can see in Anna’s video. CLÉ (Culture & Language Exchange) is an initiative from the Center for Educational Resources in Culture, Language and Literacy to showcase the richness of culture present in our community. Videos are in the original language (without subtitles) in an effort to create an immersive language experience. Language educators are welcome to use them as part of a class lesson or sample assignment for their students in that language class. Find the full videos in our YouTube channel and SUBSCRIBE! CLÉ videos will be shared bi-weekly on Fridays. Follow us on Twitter as @CERCLL and Instagram as @cercllua.
