Tchaikovsky Symphony No. 4 (Ormandy, 1947)

Tchaikovsky: Symphony No. 4 in F Minor, Op. 36 Philadelphia Orchestra conducted by Eugene Ormandy Recorded December 3 and 4, 1947, in the Academy of Music, Philadelphia, on Columbia 78-rpm matrices XCO 39520 through XCO 39529. Issued in May, 1948, as Columbia Masterworks set MM-736 (records 12767-D through 12771-D). This was the first of four recordings Ormandy was to make of Tchaikovsky’s Fourth Symphony. The Symphony is in four movements: 1. Andante sostenuto; Moderato con anima 2. Andantino in modo di canzona (at 17:38) 3. Scherzo: Pizzicato ostinato (Allegro) (at 26:35) 4. Finale: Allegro con fuoco (at 32:14)
