’We have an issue here’: SA Police Association calling for end to police vaccine mandates
Police Association of South Australia President Mark Carroll says while vaccine mandates for the state’s police force were “justifiable“ in October, “things have changed“.
“Under our legislation, the Emergency Management Act, the Police Commissioner is the state coordinator and has the control of the state, but nobody one ever thought that we’d be two years into being under the effective control of the state coordinator under that act,“ Mr Carroll told Sky News host Chris Kenny.
“During his time, the Police Commissioner has obviously had to make a number of decisions based on SA Health advice in conjunction with SA Health to manage the pandemic here in South Australia.“
Mr Carroll said in October last year the Police Commissioner mandated all police officers to be vaccinated against COVID which meant around 150 people were stood down.
“We do have an issue here - and not being alarmist - what we’re saying is that things have changed.“
