Australian BMX rider Sam Willoughby wins the Elite Men’s World Championship in Birmingham England saying it was “a dream come true“. Willoughby progressed through to finals after a convincing ride in the semi finals that saw him lead from start to finish.
The final featured 2 Australian riders with Sam being joined by Anthony Dean also from South Australia. On the gate Willoughby held the much coveted number 1 position with Dean in 8 whilst in between sat 2 French, 2 US and one rider each from Latvia and New Zealand.
Asked whether the attention turns straight away to the Olympics Willoughby said he was going to enjoy being World Champion for the moment.
“I’m going to enjoy this and then switch gears and go for that Olympic one. I’m going to let this sink in but I think it’s going to take a week or so.“
