When we think of snow, countries like Canada, Russia, or Norway typically spring to mind. Yet, the title of the snowiest country on Earth goes to a rather unexpected contender: Japan.
In the heart of Japan’s main island, Honshu, lies the city of Aomori, which on average receives an astounding 311 inches of snow annually. This is more than double the average snowfall in Moscow, Russia, which gets about 152 inches. Even in famously frosty areas like Quebec City in Canada, which sees an average of 124 inches of snow each year, the figures pale in comparison to Japan’s snowy record.
