SYND 10 9 76 REFORGER GORDION SHIELD MILITARY EXERCISE

(10 Sep 1976) NATO troops have begun a massive exercise in the Hessen region of West Germany as part of “Operation Reforger“ ..... a military manoeuvre aimed at simulating NATO reaction to invasion. The current exercise, codenamed Gordian Shield, brings together the combined strength and equipment from units of the American, British, Belgian, Canadian, Luxembourg, Dutch and West German armed forces. In all, about 36-thousand NATO troops are taking part in the Gordian Shield exercise. The heavy work of th
