Boney M.: Kalimba De Luna - 20 Happy Songs (Vol. 1) [1984]

The year of 1984 saw Boney M. return with the album 10,000 Lightyears after a 2½ year album break and Reggie Tsiboe replacing Bobby Farrell in the line-up. The new album was not the successful comeback that the group was hoping for. Farian started recording a new Christmas album over the summer of 1984 when he heard an Italian single, Kalimba De Luna, and decided to record this with Reggie Tsiboe. It was rushed out as a Boney M. single (despite neither Liz Mitchell nor Marcia Barrett singing on it) in August ’84 and soared to #13 in the German charts, Boney M.’s best chart placing in three years. Farian then reunited the group with Bobby Farrell for the follow-up single Happy Song, a title riding the italo-disco/breakdance wave. It peaked at #7 in Germany towards the end of the year.
