Multi-Russia: Belgorod region Our today’s issue is about Belgorod region. It is an area of pure white chalk hills and black fertile lands. More than a third of Russia’s iron ore reserves is concentrated there. Belgorod is called “the city of the first salute“. On August 5, 1943, in the course of the Battle of Kursk, Belgorod was liberated from Nazis. In honor of heroic soldiers an artillery salute was given in Moscow on that day.
