#VisitRussia ? Kostroma is a city on the banks of the Volga River, situated 330 km northeast of Moscow. It was founded in 1152 as a northeastern outpost on the frontiers of Ancient Rus. In the 18th century, Catherine II ordered the city to be rebuilt, resulting in a European layout. ️ Kostroma is included in the tourist route of the Golden Ring not only because of its many well-preserved cultural heritage sites. This city is the cradle of the Romanov dynasty, and its history is inextricably linked with Grand Duke Yuri Dolgoruky. The main city landmarks include the Holy Trinity Ipatiev Monastery, Kostromskaya Sloboda open-air museum, Romanovsky Museum, Epiphany Monastery of St. Anastasia, Ostrovsky Pavilion, Snegurochka’s House,the Cheese Museum and Susaninsky Square.
