From the Vault: The SIG 551-A1

The original SIG 550/551 series is widely acclaimed by a multitude of firearm aficionados as of the best semi-automatic rifles ever produced. The original design dates back to the late 1970’s and can trace its roots to the Swiss Army. The SIG 556-A1 is not an exact copy but does feature ambidextrous safety levers, paddle magazine release and side-folding stock. It utilizes an operating system resembling the Kalashnikov’s gas-piston design, with a rotating bolt and carrier. In this segment of From the Vault, Paul Levy goes over additional features of the SIG 551-A1.
