Satie-Debussy ’Gymnopédie’ No. 3 - Charles Gerhardt conducts

The web definition of ’Gymnopédie’ includes such words as “dance“, “antiquity“, “nudity“, “warfare“ and “ceremony,“ being a kind of mixture of the games and dances of Ancient Greece. Erik Satie wrote three gently atmospheric piano pieces with the title ’Gymnopédie’ and Claude Debussy orchestrated the first and third of them. We hear No. 3 in a performance by the National Philharmonic conducted by Charles Gerhardt. He was a long-time RCA producer who also produced and conducted a great many albums for Reader’s Digest. This track comes from a CD on the ’Menuet’ label with all due acknowledgements.
