Flirtatious wolves in northern Minnesota

Things are getting a little flirtatious in the wolf world as sex is on the mind—and we mean that in the most biological way! Actually, mating season is pretty much over now but this footage was from February 13, in the heat of mating season and the day before Valentine’s day…a coincidence? This rare observation shows a bit of the courtship behavior between the breeding pair of the Cranberry Bay Pack. The big whiter wolf is V083, the male, and his mate, V084, is the smaller wolf. This pair has produced at least 2 litters together and look well on their way to producing a 3rd! The third wolf is likely one of the pair’s offspring, possibly a pup from this past year. So, like all good intimate moments between parents, their child is standing there watching.
