Germany brings new recreational cannabis law into force as Berliners celebrate with a ’smoke-in’

Germany has introduced new laws meaning smoking cannabis is now legal for over-18s. The new laws for personal possession came into effect as of 1 April, meaning adults in Germany are allowed to carry up to 25g of dried cannabis on them and cultivate up to three marijuana plants at home. Several hundred cannabis enthusiasts gathered at midnight under the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin to smoke marijuana in public as the new law legalising its recreational use comes into effect on April 1. Cannabis consumption by anyone under 18 will continue to be illegal.
