Before Spider-Man, Army of Darkness, and the Evil Dead itself, Sam Raimi, Bruce Campbell and company were a collection of high school and college students looking to fulfill their dreams and make their feature horror film. The Issue? They didn’t have the resources to make the film that became the Evil Dead. Their solution? A proof-of-concept short film that acts a precursor to what would come. Their first attempt is a short film called Within the Woods. While being a rough first draft of the series, and in addition nearly impossible to track down, without it, the rest of the series doesn’t happen.
