The track comes with a potent message from the Ukrainian outfit who are all about combining classical music traditions with contemporary electronics, a philosophy shared by this label. DZ’OB is a five-piece band from Dnipro which features talented musicians and producers on oboe, bassoon, violin, cello and electronics. Since 2014 they have been at the sharp end of the avant-garde scene and have played all over Ukraine. Their live shows are full of invention and energy as well as plenty of musical academia and on this new single which was written and composed by Oleksii Badin they collaborate with Mattia Prete. The founder and Berlin-based DJ and producer was involved with the composition and provided the track’s scintillating electronic rhythms. This new track’s title is taken from the name of a form of Ukrainian verbal folk magic. Users of zagоvory can enchant objects or people and it stems from pagan prayers and incantations that were initially based on a belief in the power of the human word. This meant that the exact pronunciation of words (whether whispered or sung) was of great importance, as was the exact observing of all associated rites. For anyone performing these rites, a great deal of stamina was required. In the case of “Zomovliannia“, the words are aimed at making the enemy that has come into Ukrainian land “sleep forever.“ It is a strong message during such devastating times for Ukrainians, while the artwork also conveys the apocalyptic atmosphere of war and hints at a news item that suggested the Russian army was provided with 45000 plastic bags just before the illegal invasion. The track has a dark and unsettling atmosphere with slashing synth sounds piercing the wind leads. As the groove grows and picks up speed, it becomes an experimental form of broken beat techno with moody oboe and bassoon sounds leading you into the unknown. Haunting breakdowns and tense strings continue to build the drama throughout this most arresting of pieces. “Zomovliannia“ is a powerful piece of music with a deeply meaningful message. Jazz-o-Tech is a label that draws on the rich heritage of two of the most visionary and experimental genes in music: jazz and techno. Taking inspiration from the freeform creative nature of those two musical worlds, artists on the label mix tradition with modernity, improvisation with experimentation, and create a new sound known as techno-jazz. Modern music needs to be ambitious. It must aim to deliver a musical message which is one step beyond what has already been heard. It must take you on a new musical journey into unknown dimensions and emotions. That is the Jazz-o-Tech mission. ___ DISCLAIMER: All tracks are uploaded in a low quality for promotional purposes only and with buy links to respect label and artists.
