THE THINGS THAT GO VROOOM! - MOTORSPORT MONTH ON BRITISH PATHÉ (JANUARY 2016): Newsreels of the Week: Women Racing Drivers.
A brief look at some of the long line of women racing drivers in the history of motorsport. We see a duel between Kay Petre and Gwenda Stewart (also known as Gwenda Hawkes) at Brooklands in 1935. Then enthusiast Jean Mortimer goes out for a spin in a 1946 newsreel. We watch Tanya Crouch stock car racing at Harringay in 1955. And we finish with a 1957 Shelsley Walsh race featuring Roberta Cowell, who is also of interest for another reason, being an early pioneer in transgender history.
