many roses to you. played on the lumatone in 31-equal explorations of the 8:16:24:36:40:54:60:88:131:196 in 31edo. this has been my recent fascination and it has unlocked 31 in a new way for me. it’s the maj7t11t15t19 (one of the best sounds). basically the “superlydian“ scale but instead of the #11 on the lydian, you do a semisharp t11 which activates the 11/8-ish interval in 31 (or other tunings with 5L2s and a superfourth off chain). But the 3/2 “pyth“ chain for the 11/8ish interval in 31 breaks off the map so quickly and instead lands directly on 131:196(49/1) the 1:49 providing an outershell to support the 131st harmonic is so delightful. i have loosely treated 31 edo as a free collection of notes with strong agreeance with the interpretation and only mentally used the 11 limit mapping implication. now i see why i was so hesitant! it’s a massive /2 primodal superzonk. sounds almost nothing like a geometric crystallizing of 3 and 11 against each other. i hear a clear high overtone, harmonic object, specifically a deep rooted wide voicing of /2! 32:66:99 gives - 0.0 c - 1253.2 c - 1955.2 c 64:131:196 gives - 0.0 c - 1240.1 c - 1937.6 c as verticals the latter two are only ~2 cents out of 31, the vertical tuning of those consecutive extensions fall almost perfectly at 64:131:196. by selectively voicing the pyth diatonic intervals and leaning into the cleaner 5/4 based spaces, you can get 32:[35]:40:48:60:131:196(49/1) which has almost no error. it’s so clean. the gestalt ! such a pretty sound. i have been massively inspired by the 131 and it’s context in being present during the motherchord of maj7t11t15t19 in 31edo. pretty mind blowing life changing 31 thing for me personally lol. warmly, z video footage credits: polina kovaleva mikhail nilov #131roses #zheaerose #microtonal
