He was the son of Jean-Baptiste Sohier and Marie-Joseph Hanot, sister of the violinist François Hanot. In March 1750 he played twice at the Concert Spirituel in Paris with ‘the greatest success’; the Mercure de France mentioned that he was then first violinist at the Concert de Lille.
