Burroughs and Brion Gysin. ’No. 9’ undoubtedly refers to 9 Rue Git-le-Coeur, the legendary Beat Hotel in Paris where William Burroughs, Gysin, Gregory Corso and many others lived and creatively cross-pollinated during the late 1950’s. Images from that time and place appear in the film. These and other of their works, especially ’Towers Open Fire’, or excerpts thereof, have appeared in the William Burroughs documentary ’Burroughs The Movie’ by David Brookner and elsewhere since their initial screenings at art houses and happenings during the 1960’s.
