Yisrolik - Chayela sings - with Naava & Puppet

Yisrolik - ( Little Israel) was written by Leib Rozenthal / Leyb Rzental 1916-1944). It was first sung by his sister Chayela Rosenthal / Khayele Rozenthal in the Vilna Ghetto Theatre in 1942. Yisrolik is a character based on the young peddlers in the Vilna ghetto who sold cigarettes and other treats and ran errands and smuggled food to prisoners... Chayela’s daughter Naava dances with “Yisrolik “the puppet. The use of the puppet honors the contribution Leyb made when he wrote songs and play scripts for The Maidim Puppet Theatre in Vilna in the 1930’s. Read more about Chayela and Leyb at
