ʻUkulele virtuoso Taimane Gardner says she feels more comfortable on stage than off stage. “I just need to express whatever is in me,” she says, “and it just comes out in this very ferocious energy and people seem to be drawn to it.” Get to know this native of ʻĀina Haina in East Honolulu on LONG STORY SHORT WITH LESLIE WILCOX. Taimane recalls that her father gave her an ʻukulele at age five, and it has shaped her life. By the time she reached her early teen years, she was performing with legendary Waikīkī headliner Don Ho. As an adult, she is a composer as well as a musician, and has performed internationally.
