Spending the day dyeing maple and other species with Keta wood dye.
For clarification:
1. Made bags to size with vacuum sealer, plus 2 gallon freezer bags.
2. Prepared wood to fit in the bags, but be submerged in my deepest cooler.
3. Prepared dye, per the instructions from Keta
4. After placing the veneer in the bag, poured in the veneer (Black, Red, Blue, Yellow) then rolled dowels to hang from cooler rim.
5. Set temperature to 140 degrees Fahrenheit using Anova sous vide cooking device.
6. Carefully rotate the veneer every 30 minutes to disperse the dye among the layers (up to 10). Some leaks developed and I had to replace 2 bags.
7. While black takes the longest, the other colors were done in 45 to 60 minutes.
8. Dyes were then mixed from primary to secondary colors creating teal, green, and others.
9. Dryeing the veneer is labor intensive requiring separation of the layers with news print. Colors will bleed so keep each isolate. Keep weight on them to have them dry flat.
