English fast dance (Celtic origin), also dance of sailors (pirates). The blows were made with the toes and heels of the feet, the upper part of the body remained motionless. While sailing on a ship, the sailors went out on deck to warm up, they tapped and shuffled their feet on the floor, beating out a rhythm.
