The subject is Western Ukraine, and in particular the cities of Kamianets-Podilskyi and Chernivtsi, the region of Kyle’s birth, development and inspiration. Although now part of Ukraine, the region, which is also known as Bukovina, has in the past been part of Moldova, the Habsburg Empire, the Russian Empire, Romania and the Soviet Union.
