Boston PCC Streetcar: Ashmont - Mattapan Line

Boston MBTA’s hidden treasure is its streetcar line from Ashmont to Mattapan. Come take a look as we explore this line at a few different locations. This right of way was first used by the Dorchester and Milton, opening in 1847! It is still used today by the fleet of meticulously restored and cared for PCC streetcars owned by the MBTA. These cars are still used due to the significant age of some of the bridges on the line, such that modern light rail vehicles are too heavy to traverse the bridges.
