Federico Barocci: Drawings | Barocci: Brilliance and Grace | The National Gallery, London
Great perfectionist: what do Frederico Barocci’s drawings reveal about him?
Federico Barocci was fascinated by the human form. What do his drawings and oil sketches reveal about his character and his approach to art?
Carol Plazzotta, curator of ’Barocci: Brilliance and Grace’ at the National Gallery, London, examines the draughtsman’s deep obsession with mastering tone, form and harmony, which led to the preparation of prolific studies in every conceivable medium to the adoption of some rather unusual painterly techniques.
The exhibition, ’Barocci: Brilliance and Grace’, will showcase Barocci’s spectacular paintings alongside dazzling preparatory drawings, allowing visitors to witness the evolution of his art from the seeds of his imagination through to the final picture.
