Benny Gantz, a veteran centrist leader and member of the three-person war cabinet, launched a broadside at Netanyahu, the prime minister, spelling out an ultimatum: accept his plan by June 8 to end the war in Gaza, including a template for the future of the territory, or he and his National Unity party would walk away. “If you choose the path of fanatics and lead the entire nation to the abyss, we will be forced to quit the government,” Gantz said. Such a move would not automatically topple the administration but it would greatly weaken the prime minister’s position.
