Anime is a word that is definitely part of the Zeitgeist, and seems so self-evident as to what it is. But the actual history and usage of the term is far more complicated that meets the eye. In this video I discuss where exactly does the term comes from, the language convergence that created it, and some other fun terms that have been used over the years to refer to Japanese animation.
