The Police were a British band, extremely popular in the late 70s and early 80s. With Sting (nickname of Gordon Sumner) as lead singer/bassplayer, guitarist Andy Summers and drummer Stewart Copeland, the 3 men had their first two hits in 1979: ’So Lonely’ (which reached number 31 in the Dutch Top40) and Roxanne (which ended at #21). ’Roxanne’ was recorded in the Toppop studio on 24 May 1979. Shorttly after this recording, on 4 June 1979, they performed on the main stage at the Pinkpop festival in Geleen, the Netherlands, which caused their big break big in Holland.
