Respighi - Violin Sonata in B minor - Mvt 1: Moderato - Heifetz
Ottorino Respighi (1879-1936)
Violin sonata in B minor
Mvt 1: Moderato
Jascha Heifetz (violin), Emanuel Bay (Piano)
Written around the same time as the Roman trilogy, Respighi’s violin sonata is a product of his maturity and one of the major contributions to the form in the early part of the 20th century. Heifetz was an early champion - the sonata has been recorded a number of times, by great performers, but Heifetz brings a life and passion to the work like no one else does - he makes it live.
