MPs have filled the Commons benches for the first time in 17 months, for an historic debate over the Afghanistan conflict. The Prime Minister faced anger from both sides of the Commons - including from senior Conservatives - as he addressed parliament following the dramatic Taliban takeover. But, defending the final pull-out of British troops from Afghanistan after two decades, Mr Johnson denied the UK had been caught “unawares“ by the militant group’s takeover of the country.
