Sample-magic jam with Elektron Octatrack Mk2, Minitaur, JU-06a

My friend Dave challenged me to make a song using only samples from one record, plus a little wrinkle (a wah-wah piano) for added fun. I did most of the heavy lifting on the Akai MPC Live II but then moved over to the Octatrack for arrangement and performance. The MPC is amazing at sampling, lazy chop, and getting the bones of the song in place; the Octatrack is the perfect companion for developing a live performance, especially thanks to its scenes. For a little extra help, I added the Minitaur (bass extraordinaire) and the JU-06a (pad machine). I’m tremendously happy with the final song, and here’s hoping Dave likes it too!
