Stomach cancer (gastric cancer) develops when malignant cells form in the lining of the stomach. Risk factors for stomach cancer include:
• Helicobacter pylori infection: Chronic infection with this bacterium is one of the major causes of gastric cancer.
• Diet: High intake of salty, smoked, and pickled foods is linked to an increased risk.
• Smoking and alcohol consumption.
• Genetic predisposition: Family history of gastric cancer and genetic mutations (e.g., CDH1 mutation).
• Age and Gender: It is more common in older adults, especially men.
• Previous stomach surgeries or conditions like chronic gastritis and pernicious anemia.
